Some tips for success on using the forum:

  • Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
  • There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
  • Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics  (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
  • Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
  • State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
  • Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
  • Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
  • Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.

Simulation of a room with a double facade with Type56

Hi everyone,

I have a room that I wanted to simulate with Type56. Desired output is the operative room temperature and the surface temperature of the window, the ceiling and the floor. This room borders on a double facade (inner layer triple glazing, outer layer one glass pane; the space between the layers is equipped with openings diagonal between the different floors to get a better ventilation, a CFD-Simulation for the space between the layers has already been done for ventilation aspects).

How would be the correct way to integrate this facade into my simulation? Do you know any examples where I can have a look on to better understand how to simulate a facade like this?

Many thanks in advance for any hints, help or examples!

Susanne,

I do not know if this is the best way to approach the situation but what I have done in the past is to treat the façade space as another Type56 airnode and then use the results of the CFD simulation as boundary conditions on the flow of air through the façade airnode. If the façade covers more than one story of the building then I usually assign one air node to each part of the façade that is adjacent to one of the stories of the building. I then use the CFD (or CONTAM/COMIS/TRNFlow) generated airflows to set the air coupling between the airnodes of the façade.

kind regards,

 David.
