Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.

The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.

Some tips for success on using the forum:

  • Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
  • There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
  • Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics  (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
  • Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
  • State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
  • Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
  • Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
  • Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.

Trnbuild does not recognize the value of the convective heat transfer coefficient given in type56 !

Dear colleagues,

When I try to save in Trnbuild, immediately I get this error.

I tried two variants as the Tutorials manual specified (9): the first one, introducing an input value in type56 (Houtside:64) and the second variant, introducing an equation that includes the wind speed (3.8*Windspeed+7.4). With the two variants I obtain as the same result: That entries for this convective coefficient are not allowed as INPUT.

Also, I did what the Tutorial says, put in the front wall: internal calculation/vertical wall and the back wall: user-defined: Houtside.

What's the solution?

Best regards,

Ricardo

Ricardo,

Without seeing the *.b18 file I cannot be certain of what is going on. TRNBuild/Type56 gives you the option to internally compute a convective heat transfer coefficient that depends on the difference between the local surface and air temperature. However, you can only do that for an inside surface. I have had some situations in which I defined a wall with such coefficients and then accidentally used the same wall type as an external wall, which is not allowed. I'd recommend going through the *.b18 and making sure that all of your surfaces are set to constant convective heat transfer coefficients. Make sure TRNBuild will save the file (i.e. that it isn't corrupted somehow). Then make your change to defining the outside convective coefficient to the name of your INPUT.

If none of that works then revert back to the last savable version of your file and send it to your distributor with very specific instructions on the change that has to be made in order for the file to become unsavable.

kind regards,

 David
