Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.

The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.

Some tips for success on using the forum:

  • Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
  • There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
  • Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics  (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
  • Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
  • State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
  • Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
  • Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
  • Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.

I have been using TRNSYS with Matlab2022a for sometime without issues. I downloaded the new version Matlab2024a and I am unable to start the Matlab engine. Is it possible to specify to TRNSYS to use the Matlab2022a version?

The reason that Matlab2024 is not working may be that the version of the Type155.dll file located in your .\TrnsysXX\Exe\ directory has to match your Matlab version. DLLs for various Matlab releases are located in the ..\TrnsysXX\Exe\DLLs\ directory. If you find your version of Matlab there, extract the Type155.dll and place it in ..\TrnsysXX\Exe, replacing the file that is already in that location. If you do not see your version of Matlab in the ..\TrnsysXX\Exe\DLLs\ directory please contact your distributor; they can provide you with an appropriate version of the file. We do not yet have a dll for Matlab2024a but if you can please send an email to techsupport@tess-inc.com, I can get some files from you and create one.

I am uncertain as to whether it is possible to get Trnsys to communicate with Matlab if there are two Matlab versions installed. One of the steps involved in setting up the communication is to add the path to libeng.dll (normally located in C:\Matlab\bin\win64) to your Windows search path (assuming you installed in C:\Matlab) and I imagine that if you had both c:\Matlab2022 and c:\Matlab2024 then you could simply add the appropriate directory to the search path. Having references to both versions of Matlab in the search path is very likely to cause problems.

As a side note (and for others searching archived threads) the Type155 section of the 05-MathematicalReference.pdf manual contains the most up-to-date knowledge base about connecting Trnsys and Matlab to one another.

kind regards,

 David
