Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.
The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.
Some tips for success on using the forum:
- Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
- There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
- Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive or Post archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
- Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
- State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
- Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
- Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
- Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.
Hello,
I am using Type786 and I set Control Mode = 0 (Parameter #1) to operate the heat pump as an ON/OFF unit. However, when I run the simulation, I receive the following error message:
"14 INPUTS are required and 16 INPUTS were specified."
I understand the reason: when Control Mode = 0, Input #15 (heating mode supply air temperature setpoint) and Input #16 (cooling mode supply air temperature setpoint) are not needed. These two inputs are only relevant when Control Mode = 1 (variable speed operation).
My question is: is there a way to disable or deactivate Input #15 and Input #16 when Control Mode = 0, without having to modify the source code or the ProForma file? I am looking for a standard, user-level solution.
Unfortunately a fix needs to be made to the proforma, which can be done at the standard user level. If you'd like, here are the steps:
1. navigate to .\TrnsysXX\Studio\Proformas\HVAC Library (TESS)\Heat Pumps\Variable Speed Compressor\Air(source) to Air Heat Pump\One Indoor Unit One Outdoor Unit\
2. rename the two files in that directory from Type786_v2b.bmp to Type786a_v2b.bmp and from Type786_v2b.tmf to Type786a_v2b.tmf.
3. make a copy of the two renamed files, create a new subdirectory called "operate as ON-OFF" and move the copies of the *.tmf and *.bmp files into the new directory. Rename them to Type786b_v2b.bmp and Type786b_v2b.tmf.
4. launch the Simulation Studio, navigate in the Direct Access tool (the directory structure on the right) to the newly created directory, and double click on Type786b_v2b.
5. switch to the "variables" tab and click on the "variables (parameters, inputs, outputs, derivatives) button.
6. select the "parameters" tab, highlight the "control mode" parameter and click the "modify" button on the right.
7. set the value in the "minimum" "maximum" and "default value" fields all to 0.
8. change to the "inputs" tab and delete the last two inputs.
9. click "ok," and save the modified proforma.
10. repeat steps 4-7 with the Type786a_v2b proforma but change the min, max, and default values to 1
11. go back to your project, right click on your instance(s) of Type786 and select "replace" from the context menu; navigate to and select Type786b_v2b
I realize that is a lot of steps; if you would like I can send you the modified proformas. You'd only need to put them in the correct directories. Please send an email to techsupport@tess-inc.com.
