Some tips for success on using the forum:

  • Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
  • There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
  • Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics  (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
  • Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
  • State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
  • Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
  • Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
  • Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.

[Solved] Combine Li-Ion Battery (TESS Type 549) with Inverter (Type 48)

Hello,

I am trying to simulate a simple PV system, with an integrated Lithium-Ion battery. I want to use for this the inverter Type 48c with the component Type 549a_v2a from the TESS library.

However, I do not get expected results; the Power to/from battery only has a positive value, meaning that it only gets charged and the battery never gets used!

Has anyone already tried this? Type 48c asks for different inputs that is impossible to link with the Lithium Battery Block, so I just inserted the values.

Thank you for your help!

It may be that not all of the modes of Type48 are compatible with Type549. However, Type48b is used with Type549a in the example that you might find in: ..\Trnsys18\Tess Models\Examples\Electrical Library\ResidentialPVwithLi-IonBattery_v2a.tpf

kind regards,

 David

@davidbradley

Thanks for the answer, I didn't know that there was such an example!
I did find out my mistake though, the battery bank specific heat I inserted was correct in J/kg*K and not in kJ/kg*K (the chosen unit in TRNSYS), so mostly user error.
I used Type 48c as an inverter but will end up choosing Type 48b, I think it is safer.
Thanks again for the help!

Best regards,

Jan
