Re: [TRNSYS-users] TRNSYS Weather File Construction

Thanks for the suggestion Christian. Where the temperatures are concerned I was able to get hourly values from the website climate.canada.gc.ca, however only hourly meteorological data was available. Where solar radiation is concerned I could only get daily data. My current challenge is that I need to build a custom weather file for 2019 that is readable by TRNSYS to validate a model. I know that I can use the Type 9e input in TRNSYS, and for the meteorological data, it would work perfectly as I have the hourly data, however I do not have the hourly solar data to feed into Type 9e. My challenge is to convert this daily solar radiation into hourly radiation data.

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig,
perhaps you give you a try to look at
ASHRAE Handbook 1985 Fundamentals (SI-Edition).
Chapter 26 Table 2 and Table 3. In the text you will find calculation examples for generating hourly values out of design dry-bulb temperature and mean daily range (see Table 1, Chapter 24), and Chapter 26, Table 3 (hourly) percentage of the Daily range. This same hourly percentage is also used in program NBSLD (NBS, Tamami Kusuda), where you give the dry-bulb temp. and the mean daily range in the input data.

Kind regards
Christian

Craig,

I would try and find an hourly data file for a location that is near to the RETScreen location. TRNSYS reads half a dozen or so different weather data file syntaxes and there is a data base of Canadian weather in *.epw format that has a pretty extensive site list. There is a component in Trnsys that will generate hourly data based on monthly averages but not one that will do so based on daily data.

kind regards,

 David

Hi Everyone:
I am new to TRNSYS and looking for a bit of help around constructing a weather file readable by TRNSYS. I have some NASA weather data for a site that I extracted from RETScreen, however these are daily data. Is there anyway to have TRNSYS convert these to say hourly data, or data consistent with the simulation steps?
Thanks in advance.

Craig
