Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.

The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.

Some tips for success on using the forum:

  • Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
  • There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
  • Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics  (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive or Post archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
  • Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
  • State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
  • Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
  • Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
  • Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.

hello, i have a questio about the image provided in the question

is it normal when the haeting and cooling settings in the TRNbuild is off to show results like this? by the way i want cooling for summer and heating for winter and as you can see the thermostat only worked for the cooling mood and the active layer is varying with the temperautre only during winter. and the the zone temperautre and the extrnal is kind of close to each other,

can you tell me if it's normal or not? and shoudl the heating and cooling settings be on when i want to fine the energy consumption of the building?

hope you can clarify for me some points, Thaks

Type56 can operate in two different modes.

In one, you typically define a heating and a cooling type in TRNBuild, define a heating and a cooling setpoint temperature and then apply that heating and/or cooling in the appropriate zones. In this case Type56 will calculate the space load: the energy required to maintain the space in between the heating and cooling set points.

In the other mode you turn off any heating and cooling types in TRNBuild and you allow the zone temperature to float. Then outside of Type56 (in the Simulation Studio) you define a thermostat model that watches the zone temperature and that sends control signals to pumps, fans, heaters, cooling equipment, etc. The equipment is set up so that it draws air (or liquid) from the zone, heats it up or cools it down as appropriate, mixes it with outdoor air if appropriate, and returns it to the zone. The warmed or cooled fluid will have an impact on the zone temperature, which will in turn be sensed by the thermostat. In running a simulation like this you have to use a short timestep (1-5 minutes).

It is not possible to tell definitively but from your description of your simulation, it sounds as though you may have a mixture of the two methods outlined above.

If this doesn't help you solve the problem then I would encourage you to contact your distributor, send them your project file and have them give you some suggestions.

cheers,

Alasdair
