Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.
The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.
Some tips for success on using the forum:
- Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
- There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
- Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive or Post archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
- Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
- State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
- Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
- Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
- Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.
hello there,
wanted to ask about the connection between these five materials,
1-multizone-building (type 56)
2-water pump type( which one is the best? i'm working on type 3b is it ok? )
3-air to water heat pump (type 941)
4-thermostat (type 166)
5- active layer as an input (mass flow rate and temperature type 14h)
how can i connect these to make a full hydronic loop?
Thanks!
Hello, I also have another question , can the active layer mass flow rate become an output from the multi-zone building?
Thanks!
Typically you would set up the active layer in TRNBuild so that it has an inlet temperature and mass flow rate defined as inputs to Type56. You would then make sure that idealized heating and cooling are turned off in TRNBuild. You would set the thermostat to watch the zone temperature. It's heating output signal would go to both the pump (Type3 is fine) and to the heat pump. The heat pump, pump, and active layer would all be connected in a loop, perhaps with some instances of a pipe model as well. Make sure that your simulation time step is on the order of 1-5 minutes and also give some thought to whether you want the thermostat to be watching the zone air temperature, or perhaps the liquid outlet temperature. Because they have significant mass (and thus thermal inertia) radiant floors can be challenging to control, particularly if there are night setback temperatures.
Type56 NTYPE112 (MFLAL) is the mass flow rate of liquid exiting an active layer. That NTYPE may not have been available in Type56 before v18. If it isn't available in your version you can always pass the flow rate of liquid going into the active layer from whatever the upstream component is to the component downstream of the floor (bypassing Type56 with the flow but not the temperature).

@davidbradley Hello david, after adding the thermostat and did what you told me to do, i had a results as showing in the pdf file, are these results normal?
another question, you said to do a instance pipe model, did you mean by that adding type 993 (radiant floor) or only in TRNbuild active layer settings? and also can i add this type and also have an active layer in the building? or no?
hope you can calrify the idea for me.
Thanks!
