Some tips for success on using the forum:

  • Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
  • State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
  • Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
  • Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
  • Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.

I’m curious whether the modular nature of TRNSYS allows us to model absurdly large, non‑physical constructs and assess their hypothetical thermal footprints. Would such a “science‑fiction” exercise be a legitimate use of the software, or does it cross the line into misuse?

I suppose I would split up my answer into two pieces. TRNSYS the engine is just an equation solver that reads a text input file (of a particular syntax), interprets output-input connection, calls components, checks for convergence, and advances time. That part of TRNSYS can be applied to any system you want whether it involves thermal energy or not. TRNSYS the library of existing components has no model for the kind of structures that you mention in your email. If you are aware of algorithms and want to implement them in TRNSYS then you could but to my knowledge no such models already exist.
