There is a diesel engine generator component available in the standard TRNSYS library (Type120). There is a different model of an internal combustion engine in the TESS CHP library (which is an add-on to the standard package). I am not sure what (specifically) you mean by a heat generator. There are quite a few TRNSYS components that simulate devices that generate heat.

Dear Laura,Heat exchangers in trnsys can work both for heating and cooling, you don't have to change the component due to this. Depending on the component you choose, in psrticular if the hx properties are inputs or parameters, you will end up with different hydtaulic layouts in your model: you can have two hx with mixers and diverters on the network side, or just one hx with the mixers and div on the generator side. I recommend you type 5 or type 91.
About changing the conditions, depends on what vonditions, but remember that parameters cannot be chaged during a simulation, regsrdsAngel
