Re: [TRNSYS-users] District Cooling Plant performance simulation Trnsys

Marco,
My apologies for the delay in getting back to you. We have used TRNSYS on a few occasions to model central plants. We have relied heavily on the components in the TESS CHP library in most cases because that library contains a number of steam components such turbines, boilers, heat recovery steam generators, etc. The big advantage that TRNSYS has here is that central plants tend to be fairly unique in their design. As a result the flexibility of being able to build the system up out of its components pieces is highly useful. You could certainly come up with overall plant COP and energy consumption values. As far as autosizing is concerned, I think this would be harder. You would have to build up the configurations and specify equipment sizes and flow rates that are predetermined; TRNSYS does not have the ability to automatically and internally adjust equipment size.
Best,
 David

Hi all,

I would be very grateful to receive any useful information in regards to the use of Trnsys for simulating district cooling plants performance under a number of different variables in order to establish system COP, energy consumption and etc as well as to perform optimum design and integration of others components such as storage tank . Is it possible with Trnsys to perform plant sizing under different configurations  as well as the above ? Is it possible to perform such task, and if so has anybody in this forum undertaken such simulation?

Thanks in advance and hope to hear any news soon.

Kind Regards

Marco Gangi Chiodo
