Re: [TRNSYS-users] Direct expansion solar collector

Azly,
I am not aware of such a component for TRNSYS. I see that some research / simulation appeared in the International Journal of Energy Research in 2003: "study on a direct-expansion solar-assisted heat pump water heating system"  (Y.H. Kuang, K. Sumathy, and R.Z. Wang). My approach in TRNSYS would be to seek out a manufacturer who has some performance metrics on an available device or to couple an existing heat pump model with an existing solar collector model. You will need to be careful of what solar collector model you choose however; most solar collector models are for glazed collectors and make the simplifying assumption that the radiation losses are negligible. I imagine that this would not be the case if the collector were being used as the evaporator for the heat pump though.
Kind regards,
 David

Hi

I wonder whether someone has come-out with heat pump type with direct expansion solar collector/evaporator?.
