I'm not sure why you would need to change the collector area from a parameter to an output.  If that is indeed the case, what other information are you going to be providing to the model solve for the output?  Because you can't remove the area from being a piece of "known" information to being "unknown" without giving the model another piece of "known" information like outlet temperature, useful energy gain etc. and then re-writing the model to solve for the area.  And having the area as an output typically doesn't make sense - it will not change with time unless you are covering collectors, diverting the flow around them etc - and if you're doing that then you can simply accomplish that with diverters, shading devices etc.  Maybe a little more information about what you're trying to do would allow us to help you more...
