Just in case it is not clear, it is also worth mentioning that an
*.idf file exists only if the SketchUp drawing was saved by the
Trnsys3D plugin as a *.idf file. If what you are drawing in SketchUp
is shades of grey, chances are that you are not drawing with the
Trnsys3D plugin but with SketchUp itself; in this case there won't
be anything for the plugin to save as it does not "see" SketchUp
objects. If the shapes that you are drawing turn yellow (for walls)
and red (for roofs) then you are drawing in the Trnsys3D plugin and
you can save (and then later reopen) the *.idf file. Bear in mind
that you save the *.idf using the save icon in the Trnsys3D toolbar
NOT by selecting "save" from the "file" menu.

Again, do not save any *.skp, do not worry about any *.skp, and do
not open any *.skp. All of the information is in the *.idf.

Dear Mr. Duffy,
Thanks! But how to open the *.idf file? By what?
Simulation Studio or Sketchup etc.?
Many thanks!

Dear TRNSYS Users,
There seems to be this question very often. Please
remember to work in the TRNSYS3D plugin (Open,
Save, Close the *.idf) and NOT open/close/save in
SketchUp (*.skp). You do not even need to save any
*.skp.
Thank you,
Matt Duffy

Dear all,
How to open the former *.skp
file correctly?
When I open it, it always shows
as follows:
Sorry...the plugin has encountered
an error. This error may cause
unpredictable behavior in the
plugin--continue this session with
caution! It would probably be a
good idea to exit SketchUp and
start again.

Subject: [TRNSYS-users]
problem of IDF File from
Sketchup8 in TRNBUILD
(SketchUp
8 (with some hours on
Sketchup Pro eval),
Operating
system:Windows Vista)
From a 2D
plan created in Nova,
I had to create in 3D
each zone/room
separated to, after,
copy them in one
different trnsys3d
zone for each.
After I
had to identify each
adjacent wall between
all the rooms.
Then, I
saved a IDf File and
wanted to import it in
TRNBuild.
There was
this following message
:
"Zone:
ARCH 1 Airnode: ARCH1
(it is the nam of one
of my rooms)
Wall must
have an active layer
or chilled ceiling
layer or must be
adjacent to a
different zone
ADJ_WALL
Surf 13
"
I don't
understand what this
means because this
room includes 3
external walls and
only one adj_wall.
And as
on Sketchup we can't
identify several
adjacent rooms, I
linked this adj_wall
with the room with the
most common surface
which is even not
13m².
Is there
anyone who can tell me
what I can change to
succeed my import ?
Thank you
so much for your help.
Best
Regards,

Polymer PV-T absorber/ Type
560
Dear
All,
I
want to simulate an
unglazed polymer PV-T
collector in TRNSYS.
I was
wondering if anyone has
done this already, or
could give some advice?
My
plan is to take Type 560
and modify some
parameters (heat
conductivity, heat
transfer coefficients
(want to model
rectangular “tubes”).
It
must not be 100%
accurate in the
beginning, more like a
first estimation.
Would
be glad if someone could
give some helpful input.
Best

trnsys3d pug-in sketchup8 :
problem of adjacent wall for
several others zones
SketchUp
version:sketchup8
Operating
system:windows xp
I am so sorry to ask a
so easy question but I
didn't find how to
link a wall to several
others zones.
Indeed, in the object
info we can only
choose one zone.
But, if I cut my zone
into 2 parts and, for
example, erase the
adjacent wall to
recreate it in
trnbuild, after, there
is no more interest to
use sketchup and it
would be quicker to do
everything in
trnbuild.
Is there anyone who
already met this
problem?
Do you have a solution
?
Thanks a lot in
advance for your help.
Best regards,
Pauline Gelin.

Did you answer the question
posed by the plugin? Put in
something like 10
meters and hit enter. Then
continue to answer the
questions until the
program informs you that the
data file has been created.
We use it all
the time!
