Re: [TRNSYS-users] windows in Trnsys

Joke,
I would recommend that you use Window5 to generate a window with the correct (or as near as you can make it) u-value and g-value that you have been given. Usually, you can get close by starting with the generic glass types that are in the Window5 library and by playing with the glass and gas layers. Once you have generated the DOE-2 report from Window5, the items that you read from the Window5 "result" screen and add by hand at the end of the w4-lib.dat file are ONLY for informational display in TRNBuild. The frame u-value information in the DOE-2 Window5 report/w4lib.dat file is ignored by TRNBuild so you need to enter that in the window typemanager. There is a handy Figure in the TRNBuild/Type56 manual that shows all the information that Type56 pays attention to from the w4lib.dat file.
Best,
 David

Dear Trnsys-users,

I’ve some question concerning windows in Trnsys. When you want to implement a window (with a known U-value and g-value) but there is no corresponding window in the library, can you somewhere adapt the U-value and g-value?

I know you can use window5 to make a new window in your library, but sometimes I don’t know the layers of my window but just the U-value en g-value. Can you adapt perhaps the values of the additional heat resistance of an external shading device to achieve the wanted value? Or adapt the U-value of the profile?

When you do use window5: you have to introduce a profile too.  But in trnsys, you select the created window under “Glazing”. Do you then still have to introduce the U-value of the profile in Trnsys or … ?

Thanks in advance,
