Re: [TRNSYS-users] Type 107 - Data File problem

Marcus,
:-) I put your subtle hint into our request for enhancements... thanks. Part of the problem is that there isn't much standardization of data formats for absorption chillers like there is for heat pumps and "regular" chillers. So what manufacturers present can vary a lot from one to the next. Also, a lot of the manufacturers now seem to be tending towards having in-house software tools that can generate a few performance points but it is hard to convince the manufacturer's representatives to either let anyone else use those tools or to generate the number of points needed to make a map. In anycase, thanks for the suggestion.

Nicolàs, from personal experience and the number of related posts to this list, I think anyone who uses this type encounters the same difficulty and confusion! Personally, under time pressure, I used two approaches. The first is to create a very poor approximation by simply using the data file provided or creating a simpler data file with constant performance over a wide range of data. The data file format itself isn’t that complicated (two four-variable functions). The second approach that I am currently trying is to model the generator, absorber, and cond/evap coils with the auxiliary heater/cooler types (Type 92, 6).  It would be extremely useful to have an a wider range of data files, a simpler chiller model, or at least a walkthrough of creating a data file, at least to get something in the right order of magnitude as a first approximation . Hint hint @ developers!

Sorry I can’t help more,

Subject: [TRNSYS-users] Type 107 - Data File problem

Dear TRNsys users,

I have a problem with type 107, the absorption chiller. In the Data file folder of TRNsys installation there is only one data file which can be used with this type. The problem is that I need to utilize the hot water with a temperature in a different range, and not only between 108.89 and 116.11 °C , the range of the data available.

Should I use data available on the internet? And if so, What’s the procedure to use them? I checked in the Mathematical reference but it is not so clear.

If someone of you could give me some help, I would be really grateful , because I need to use this file for my master thesis ( upon solar cooling) and I don’t have so much time!

Best regards,
