[TRNSYS-users] Type 36, Trombe Wall

Dear Arvind Chel and Raheleh Nowzari,

Both of you had general questions about the Trombe wall, Type 36, and I
hope I can answer them.

It is recommended that Type 36 be used with the Type 56 building model.
Define a boundary wall in Type 56. This will be the inside surface of the
Trombe wall. On this boundary wall in Type 56 in TRNBuild define the
boundary temp as an input. Also, in the Wall Type Manager, make sure you
indicate that the back of the wall has a convective heat transfer
coefficient of less than 0.001 to indicate direct contact with the Trombe
wall. I must warn you, you will probably see that you will need a large
amount of insulation on this boundary wall in Type 56. You will need the
thermal conductance, U-value, of this boundary wall which you can get from
the *.inf file. You can use the U-value for the input#6 in Type 36,
Inside Loss coefficient. Connect the "Temperate at Node 3" in Type 36 to
your user-defined, input boundary temperature in Type 56. Set up the
ventilation accordingly to your project, and remember Type 36 assmes
sensible heat transfer only and not latent.
Good luck with your projects.

Matt Duffy
