Re: [TRNSYS-users] Cooling tower model

Dear Khrishna:

Type51 uses a correlation for the saturation temperature as function of the saturation enthalpy, and the correlation is valid from 9.473kJ/kg to 355 kJ/kg (reference state is h=0 for 0°C), or in terms of temperature, from 0°C to 55°C. It is very likely that the simulation is finding conditions out of this range. You may look at the time where the warning was issued, and check if the conditions and results are acceptable during these time steps.
I hope this helps.
Best regards,

Diego

Hi,
We are using a chiller model with a TYPE 51b (user supplied coefficients) cooling tower model coupled to a TYPE 56 building. For one of the building constructions the internal loads very high and requires cooling in the winter when the outdoor air temperature is about 40 F. Under such circumstances the chiller gives an warning: THE CORRELATION FOR THE SATURATION TEMPERATURE USED IN THE COOLING TOWER MODEL WAS USED WITH AN ENTHALPY VALUE OUTSIDE THE ALLOWABLE RANGE The mass transfer exponent and constant are set to 5 and -0.35 respectively. The sump is turned off by setting it to -1 and the model is set to run on fan power. Could anyone please let me know how I could resolve this
Thanks,
Krishna
