AW: [TRNSYS-users] coffered thermally activated slab representati on

Dear Isabelle,

Many thanks for your immediate reply!
I am afraid I described the slab profile slightly confusing.
The ceiling surface area of the coffered ceiling slab is the same for both cases and approximately 1/3 larger than the floor area.
Case 1, is define by pipe work embedded in the horizontal ceiling and coffer, and
Case 2, by pipe work embedded in the horizontal ceiling only.

Meaning for the cooling case is the mean surface temperature for case 1 lower as for case 2 due to the thermal resistance of the concrete.
My worry is the impact of the slope of the coffer on the radiant heat exchange and subsequently on the overall transfer coefficient.

Due you have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Christian

Dear Christian,

Wouldn't it be sufficient to change the slab surface in the various solutions ? Case 2 , the slab surface is the same as the floor one, case one, it is more important.

Just an idea ...

Good work,

Isabelle

Dear TRNSYS user,

I am about to model a coffered ceiling slab with embedded pipe work in
TRNSYS 15. What I am querying before I start the modelling process in PREBID
is how I would represent the coffer with embedded pipe work! To my current
understanding it is only possible to represent ceilings a s flat slabs.
However the coffer increases the heat exchanging surface area and thereby
results in an increased heat exchange coefficient between ceiling soffit and
room, dominated by the radiant component.

Could you please point me towards a solution that represents the physics
close enough to analyse the heat transfer with:

Case 1, pipe work embedded in the horizontal ceiling and coffer (with the
coil inside the coffer  following the slope of the coffer)
Case 2, pipe work embedded in horizontal slab only

Many thanks for your effort in advance!

Best Regards,

Christian
