Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.
The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.
Some tips for success on using the forum:
- Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
- There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
- Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive or Post archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
- Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
- State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
- Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
- Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
- Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.
Hello,
I'm currently working with the types 67 or 64 "Shading mask on opening and horizontal" and 34 "Overhang and windwall shading". At first, I was wondering why the fraction of solar shading outputted by type 34 took negative values even tough the output description said the fraction could only take a value in the interval [0;1].
As the documentation says, I put the "upstream component mode" to 1 because I'm inputting from type 67/64. However it seems that type 34 gives you the right results when you choose the mode 0, I get positive values for the fraction of solar shading.
In my configuration, is it correct to take mode 0 ? If yes, can you explain why ?
Second question, when inputting from type 15-6 (Meteonorm) to type 67-64, should I take into account ground and sky diffuse radiation or just the sky radiation ?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Hello,
I think your interpretation of how to set the "upstream component mode" in Type 34 is correct. Getting negative values for the fraction of solar shading sure sounds like there is a bug in Type 34.
I would send your project (.tpf) and any files needed to run your project to your TRNSYS distributor for assistance. It will help immensely to send as simple a version of your project as possible that still replicates the error. Your distributor has tools they can use to step through the code and find the issue.

just to close the loop on this, there is a bug in v18.05.0001. It will be fixed in the next release.
