Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.
The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.
Some tips for success on using the forum:
- Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
- There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
- Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive or Post archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
- Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
- State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
- Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
- Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
- Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.
Hello,
I am modeling a greenhouse using Type 56. I want to add the effects of plants in the greenhouse using type 780_v2a. The outputs include the mass flow, volumetric flow, and rate of evapotranspiration. My question is, what kind of gain, ventilation, etc, should I add to my Type 56 building (in TRNbuild) that is suitable for inputting these outputs into? Or is there another way to define the effects of evapotranspiration?
Thanks!
good question! Add a humidity gain in TRNBuild and assign it to be an input. You'll then connect the evapotranspiration mass flow rate to the new Type56 input.

Thank you, David.
One more follow-up question: Does the type 780 consider the heat gain related to the evapotranspiration when the humidity gain is added to the building? Or do I need to add an equation to calculate the plants and evapotranspiration heat gains separately and add it myself?
The idea of Type780 is that you pass a moisture gain rate to the building model, which in turn deals with the latent energy impacts of adding that moisture. If the zone is really hot then the moisture would be added to the air as vapor. If the zone is cold and already near saturation then the building model would take care of the impacts of condensation in the same way that it would for any other moisture gain to the space (such as occupants or a pool of water). In short, no need for you to handle any other calculations; just pass the moisture gain rate to the building model.
I should mention that I am assuming you are using Type56 as your building model. Type780 assumes that the building model will handle the latent heat. If you are using a different building model then do check its documentation so that you know whether it handles the latent heat of vaporization.
kind regards,
david
