Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.

The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.

Some tips for success on using the forum:

  • Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
  • There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
  • Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics  (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive or Post archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
  • Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
  • State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
  • Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
  • Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
  • Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.

Energy gain from lights

Hi,

I want to define the lights to turn on during the weekdays and not during the weekends. To reduce the energy gain, I need to turn the lights off in case the illuminance is high enough. When I select the "Light_6W/m2" and add the daylight control "on/off" with 300 and 500 values, "Scale 2" in the Gains/Loss section deactivates and I cannot add the schedule to it. How can I fix it? It is however working with "Light_10W/m2".

One other question I have is that the "Light_6W/m2" and "Light_10W/m2" are "gain related to reference floor area". Should I add the floor area to the "Scale 1" for instance or it will internally calculates the value. In case I want it to calculate the energy gain automatically, should I change the value of "ref. floor area" in "airnode regime data" to the floor area manually?

Best

Shams, I realize this doesn't answer your question very directly. However, I find the lighting controls that are built into TRNBuild a bit limiting so I tend to tell TRNBuild that my lighting gains will be an input to the model (instead of a scheduled or a constant value). I can then use whatever combination of components and equations I want on the outside and use an equation block to define the lighting gain that I then pass into Type56.

When you check the box that a gain is related to the floor area then Type56 will pick up the value of "ref. floor area" and apply it to the gain automatically. You do not need to specify the floor area in either of the scaling factors.

kind regards,

 David
