Welcome to the TRNSYS Users Forum.

The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. Here you can post topics for discussion or questions on using TRNSYS and get advice from other users or TRNSYS experts. This forum is not intended for detailed technical support. Users should contact their distributor’s hotline for such assistance.

Some tips for success on using the forum:

  • Follow the Forum Rules posted in Forum Administration.
  • There are categories for different types of topics and questions. Post your topic or question into the proper category.
  • Before posting a topic or question search the existing topics  (and the TRNSYS Users listserv archive or Post archive) to see if a similar topic or question has already been answered.
  • Use a descriptive topic name. Don’t use attention getting subjects, they don’t get attention and only annoy people.
  • State the version of TRNSYS and which add-ons your are using.
  • Include enough specific details for your topic of question to be answered. Just posting “Why am I getting an error?” without describing the specific error and what you are trying to do when you get the error will not receive a response that fixes your issue.
  • Remember when people help you, they are doing you a favor. Be patient, help people out by posting good descriptions of what you need help with, and be polite even if a response does not solve your issue.
  • Moderators may edit your post for clarity or move your topic to a more appropriate category.

The forum is a place where people can interact and have discussions about different topics involving the use of the TRNSYS software package. We ask that you follow these guidelines to ensure that the forums have some productive conversation. These rules and guidelines are enforced by administrators and moderators, and at their discretion they may delete posts without warning that do not comply. Also, failure to comply with these rules or our code of conduct may result in a ban from the forum.

We rely on all forum members to help keep these discussion forums a safe place for people to share and view information. To do this, we request that all members comply with the following rules when contributing to the discussion forums:

  • Keep it friendly
  • Be courteous and respectful. Appreciate that others may have an opinion different from yours.
  • Stay on topic. When creating a new discussion thread, give a clear topic title and put your post in the appropriate category. When contributing to an existing discussion, try to stay 'on topic'. If something new comes up within a topic that you would like to discuss, start a new thread.
  • Share your knowledge. Don't hold back in sharing your knowledge – it's likely someone will find it useful or interesting. When you give information, provide your sources.
  • Say Thank You and acknowledge the reply when a user takes time to reply to your thread. Replies from TRNSYS developers and users are voluntary and completely at their discretion.
  • Users may post about troubleshooting or usage issues pertinent to the wider TRNSYS community, but there is no direct technical support through the forum. Contact your TRNSYS distributor for direct technical support.
  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
  • Do not post spam. This forum defines spam as unsolicited advertisement for goods, services and/or other web sites, or posts with little, or completely unrelated content.
  • Do not post copyrighted material, unless you are the copyright holder. Providing or asking for information on how to illegally obtain copyrighted materials is forbidden.
  • The forum permits members to post about products, services, conferences and other resources that might be of mutual benefit. These can be found in the main discussion forum: Announcements.

We maintain the rights to remove posts and threads to ensure that material posted in the discussion forums is not potentially harmful. For this reason, we may edit or choose not to publish any post, that:

  • contains disrespectful or derogatory remarks about any person
  • contains advice or content that we believe is damaging, unhelpful or distressing to others
  • contains swearing or offensive language, is nonsensical and/or irrelevant
  • promotes personal beliefs in a way that is disrespectful of the choices of others
  • is racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit or suggestive, abusive or otherwise discriminatory or objectionable

thank you for these rules. Is there any option to indicate when a topic is closed that is when you think that you have received the answer to your request, so you could/should close it?

@ken If you are the topic starter, there should be a "Solved" option above your original message. Selecting that option should mark the issue as closed.
