Joe,

 There isn't really a way to avoid all that initialization. It is the kernel reading and checking the input file and then getting all of the internal data structures set up so that they can be accessed by the Types.

The simulations are quite short (just a week or so), but I’ve noticed the majority of the computational time is dedicated to some sort of initialization, i.e. a 1 week simulation takes about 4 s, and a 2 week simulation under 5 s. Is there any way I can shave down this time (since making the simulations shorter has diminishing returns)?
