Re: [TRNSYS-users] shading calculation

Karol,

you don’t need to turn on “detailed radiation mode” for a zone for generating and using a shading mask.

If  “standard radiation mode” is selected for all zones and you generate shading/insolation mask, there will be a shading mask generated only.

If you run the simulation there is a notice in the *.log / *.lst file :

*** Notice at time        :         0.000000

    Generated by Unit     :    56

    Generated by Type     :    56

Message               : Shading mask file *.shm  for external windows exists and will be used.

In addition, you can define a geometric shading output for checking.

In many cases, the geometric shading has a significant impact but not the geometric distribution of direct solar radiation.

Kind regards,

Marion

Karol,

Would it be possible to activate the detailed radiation model only for certain critical zones in the building? These might be zones that have a lot of windows for the given floor area.

kind regards,

 David

Dear Experts,

My goal is to get solar gain reaching each zone of my multiunit residential building. I need to take into account shading of surrounding buildings and self-shading.

I have prepared appropriate model in SketcUp (.idf enclosed).

It seems to me that .shm file is enough for my goal. But detailed beam radiation calculation need also .ism file for each considered zone.

My computer is not manage to create .ism files, I have only .shm file (enclosed).

Is there any way to get this solar gains, based only on .shm?

Simplification of building model are not solution for me… (I have simplified it as much as possible and each change of geometry could generate whole model error).

Kind regards,
