Re: [TRNSYS-users] Fwd: Capacity comparison of SOLTRACE AND TRNSYS

Dear D.A. Shah,

I’m not aware that TRNSYS is able to perform a ray-tracing in such a general way as SOLTRACE.

Unfortunately, I don’t know SOLTRACE in detail, but it seems  to me that using the output of SOLTRACE is a promising way.

Dear D.A. Shah,

I was wondering the same, because I need to model a kind of reflector that reflects, but also absorbs and redirects light onto a set of PV panels. I need to model the building as well with type 56.

As far as I know, TRNSYS is not able to perform ray tracing analysis. So this effect should be included in any other way I guess.

Do you have any idea? Or are you planning to couple Solar Trace with TRNSYS (maybe using Solar Trace outputs in text format as an input for TRNSYS?)

Maybe this will help:

(Check page 114, fig 4.1)

Please let me know if you solve the problem in TRNSYS...

Best,

T

Asunto: [TRNSYS-users] Fwd: Capacity comparison of SOLTRACE AND TRNSYS

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have got a querry....

I am going to use SOLTRACE(RAY TRACING SOFTWARE BY NREL https://www.nrel.gov/csp/soltrace.html ) software for evaluation of performance of various TYPES of solar reflectors.

www.nrel.gov

SolTrace. SolTrace is a software tool developed at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to model concentrating solar power (CSP) systems and ...

Now I want to know that whether TRNSYS can be used for the same purpose?

Can i evaluate optical performance of solar reflectors with TRNSYS software like SOLTRACE(RAY TRACING SOFTWARE BY NREL)?

PLEASE THROW SOME LIGHT ON THIS AS I WANT TO DECIDE THAT IF TRNSYS IS CAPABLE OF MODELLING SOLAR REFLECTORS THEN I SHOULD NOT WASTE TIME IN LEARNING SOLTRACE AND FOCUS ON TRANSYS..

AWAITING YOUR REPLY,

THANKING YOU,
