TRNSYS 3d serves to define the building's geometry. Once you are finished defining the geometry then you move from Trnsys3D to TRNBuild where you will define (or modify) the materials that make up the walls of the building.

It's clear now, thanks. I need to insulate the external wall, and for that I have to compare the impact of insulation on thermal comfort, for two cases: 1. if the insulation (rock wool for instance) is placed inside the wall, 2. if the insulation is placed back of the wall (external side). Is it possible? How to do so? The problem caused by the difference between the thermal insulation from the outside and the thermal insulation from the inside is the effect of the thermal bridges ...

The u value is only one measure of a wall's performance. The other significant part is where the mass is located in the wall. Type56's wall model takes both into account. The u-value is displayed because it is a common measure of wall performance.

Dear Trnsys users,
I am wondering if it is possible to compare the thermal performance of thermal insulation on both sides of the wall (internal & external), using TRNBuild and Trnsys3d (TRNSYS 17)! When I change the order of materials, including insulation material, in "wall type" manager/TRNBuild, the U-value does not chage.Does anyone happen to have experience how to simulate the impact of thermal insulation on both sides of the wall?Thanks in advance
