Re: [TRNSYS-users] TMY3 files in Demo Version

Brad,
I went to NREL's data site and got the Albany data file, saved it locally (leaving the extension of *.csv) and made a new project in the demo version using the Type15-TMY3 (Type 15 mode 7) proforma, indicated the Albany data file, put in an online plotter to watch temperature and ran the project without any errors. If you'd like to send me the file that you downloaded I can try that one too.
kind regards,
 David

David,
The file I downloaded directly from NREL (with CSV extension) produced the same error message. I am pretty sure I did save it as tab delimited because it was the only way I could figure out how to end in a TMY3 extension rather than TMY3.CSV. (I am not sure if the CSV extension is a problem).

Brad,
The official TMY3 syntax is comma separated. The file you attached is tab delimited. Did you download it directly from an NREL site or did it get processed (resaved as tab delimited?) along the way?
best,
 David

David, here's the exact error message provided in the simulation log for Type 15:

"Message : Unable to correctly read from the supplied data file - please check the file and re-run the simulation."

I am using Type15-TMY3. The file I used is attached. I have tried it with a couple different ones and neither worked. Thanks for looking into it.

Brad,
TMY3 files downloaded from NREL's site should work fine with the demo version. You do have to make sure that you are using the TMY3 mode of Type15. When you get the error, to what "it" do you refer? Is there an error generated by TRNSYS? Is Windows complaining about the file type? Some additional specifics about the source of the error and the language of the error would help in tracking down its cause.
kind regards,
 David

I currently do not have access to a paid TRNSYS subscription and was trying to do a quick simulation of a PV array. Is it possible to download TMY3 files from NREL to use in the Demo version? When I try this it says the file type is not recognized, even though it has the TMY3 extension. Thanks.
