Re: [TRNSYS-users] TMY-3

Dear fred,

You can refer to tmy file generator matlab code on file exchange that has the illuminance model coded in if radiation data is available. The details of the model and source material can be found on the file exchange page. The code can be modified to read 8760 records from one excel sheet.

http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/35168-weather-xls-to-tmy2

usually published tmy files contain the illuminance data.

Thanks,

Tauha

Subject: Re: [TRNSYS-users] TMY-3

Fred,
There are actually a few issues here. First, both TMY2 and TMY3 are file formats. The files themselves are simply text files and can be opened and edited with notepad, Excel, etc. The definition of the format (what data appears in which column of the data file) is publicly available:

for TMY2: http://rredc.nrel.gov/solar/pubs/tmy2/data.html
for TMY3: http://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy08osti/43156.pdf

Both the TMY2 and TMY3 formats contain fields for global illuminance. Meteonorm is able to save and export weather files in the TMY2 format. However, I do not know if it fills in the global illuminanace fields with data or if it just leaves those fields set with some default code to indicate that no data is available. If either a TMY2 or TMY3 file contains data in the global illuminance fields then TRNSYS Type15 will read and provide that data as output 44 (if you only have one surface on which Type15 is computing solar radiation).

Kind regards,
 David

Dear TRnsys users,

I would like to know how generate TMY-3 weather file ?

I can't manage it with the version of meteonorm I have...

I need Global illuminance Output for simulations and I think that only TMY-3 weather file permit it.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Regards,

Fred.
