Re: [TRNSYS-users] Irradiance/Illuminance calculations in TRNSYS

Caroline,
The answer depends a bit on which weather reading/processing component you are using. If you are using Type15 and are reading TMY2 and TMY3 files then the component outputs the following (read from the data) in the following units:

Global horizontal illuminance (lux)
Direct normal illuminance (lux)
Diffuse illuminance on horizontal (lux)
Zenith luminance (cd/m2)

This assumes that Type15 is reading a full TMY2 or TMY3 format file. If the data in the file is in some non standard units or if the illuminance and luminance data fields are blank (or more likely set to some default value to indicate that the data isn't present) then the Type15 outputs won't be valid.
Kind regards,
 David

It has been suggested to me that I can extract illuminance data from TRNSYS using the weather data that is stored within the software but I'm not sure of the exact data I've now got.  A calculation has been run for Helsisnki for example and the output was 168 hours worth of data which by the looks of things is in watts/m2 although it can't seem to find an explanation of what I'm looking at in the programme documentation. I am interested in data from across the year so I was also wondering how I might be able to get more data.  Any support with this would be much appreciated.
