[TRNSYS-users] Opportunities at Abengoa Solar Inc. (USA)

Dear all,

At Abengoa Solar, we are currently looking to hire several positions to support our R&D efforts.  Both positions will be located in our office in Denver, CO.

Thermal Systems Model Developer:
This position will be responsible for developing modeling and analysis to support development, engineering, and R&D activities of CSP plants and technologies, including:
-        Develop models and tools for optimizing design and assessing performance and cost of concentrating solar power. Includes: components, collectors, subsystems and plants. Prepare documentation of models and tools to describe modeling approaches and assumptions (60%).
-        Support systems analysis of various components and systems for R&D activities. Generate documentation of analysis as required for tasks and reporting (30%).
-        Support field test of components, collectors, and plants to validate assumptions used in analytic models as appropriate (10%).
For this position, programming experience is a must (Fortran, C or Matlab). We rely heavily on TRNSYS and EES; knowledge of these is a plus.

Thermal Systems Analyst:
This position will be responsible for conducting analysis and data collection to support development, engineering, and R&D activities of CSP plants and technologies, including:
-        Support systems analysis of various components and systems for R&D activities. Generate documentation of analysis as required for tasks and reporting. (30%)
-        Support field test of components, collectors, and plants to validate assumptions used in analytic models as appropriate. (30%)
-        Supply process design input to support engineering design of systems.  (30%)
-        Develop models and tools for optimizing design and assessing performance and cost of concentrating solar power. Includes: components, collectors, subsystems and plants. Prepare documentation of models and tools to describe modeling approaches and assumptions. (10%)

Minimum requirements:
- BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- Master's degree nor required, but desirable.

Abengoa is a reasonably large industrial corporation based in Spain (2009 revenues of about $4.0B). They have 5 business units:
- an EPC Construction company that builds power plants, industrial plants, and transmission lines
- an information technology company that builds SCADA systems to run pipeline, traffic systems, transmission systems, and power plants
- an environmental services company that does specialty recycling and water treatments
- a biofuel company - involved primarily in ethanol production
- a solar energy company - marketing large scale concentrating solar power (CSP) plants.

You can go to either of our two websites to learn more about the company.

The solar business is made up of a number of companies. In Spain, we have built the first two commercial solar power towers and three parabolic trough plants; currently we have 193MW of operating solar power plants.

Abengoa has a separate U.S. company (Abengoa Solar Inc.) that is marketing CSP plants in the US. We currently have 4 R&D contracts funded by DOE, and we are developing a number of large commercial solar power plants in the US; the two main projects will provide more than 500MW, one of them with 6 hours of thermal energy storage.

Please feel free to contact me for any information regarding these opportunities.

Best regards,

Diego
