The issue of replacing Type31 with Type709 might have to do with component order. When you run with type31, are you certain that the Type31 component appears in the same location in your input file as the Type709 did? To check, look at the "component order" tab in the simulation control cards (where you set the start and stop times).

The error check is for flow rates less than zero.  I'm guessing that your
data file has values less than zero or that your setup of Type 9 is
flawed.  You can TRACE the inputs into Type 709 to verify.
