Re: [TRNSYS-users] Difference between educational and convencionalversion TRNSYS_16

1 - I have adquire the educational version TRNSYS_16, and i want to know which are the limitation in comparing to comercial version TRNSYS_16 ?

Dear Nilton,

The difference is only a legal one; technically the package is identical to the commercial version.

Educational licenses are to be for educational and research purposes at educational institutions only (other non-profit organizations such as governments do not count as educational). Each educational license is a site license allowing up to ten copies at that specific department or research group.

Other question, about the simulation building:

2 - I want to know if the TRNSYS_16 can read the geometric parameters building, from the AutoCad program ?

In negative response, he can read the geometric parameters of the building in another program? What is the program  name?

There is a French initiative called NBDM (Neutral Building Data Model) which produced, among other things, a plug-in for Google SketchUp (based on NREL’s OpenStudio), allowing to export the drawing to NBDM compatible programs (including TRNSYS, via a free translator). Information is available at

http://software.cstb.fr/soft/present.asp?context=SketchNBDM&langue=us&cd=n&search=

and more information (but only in French) at

http://nbdm.org/
