Dear LF Ding,The active layer model in Type56 is a semi empirical model (meaning that it is in some part based on curve fit data) and assumes that the working fluid in the floor is water. I don't think that it would be valid to model a PCM layer in a floor using the active layer model. The active layer model is intended for modeling radiantly heated and cooled floors that have an embedded network of pipes filled with either cold or hot water. The approach most often taken in modeling floor and wall technologies is to write an external model of the floor or wall and have that model interface with Type56. We have written a number of radiant floor models that take the inside surface temperature of a Type56 BOUNDARY wall, then calculate and return the outside surface temperature back to Type56 as an input. I do not think that any of the radiant floor models that we have written can be used to approximate a wall with a PCM layer because of the change in specific heat of a PCM material as it goes through its melting / solidification. It looks as though the PCM component that you downloaded is intended to interface with Type56, although through a zone temperature and an energy flux, not through surface temperatures. If you did not find that component in the TRNSYS 15 section of the TRNLib then that is an indication that the model was written for TRNSYS 16 and does not exist in the older format.

What is the meaning of the surface-to-surface approach? How I insert the new PCM model into the TYPE56?In the trnsys website, I can download the zip of PCM model, but the document ofthe type can¡¯t open, could you please transfer a new one for me? Now I work with prebid 5.0.8 and trnsys 15 with iisibat 3, but the zip of PCM model is created for trnsys 16, do you have another version of the model of trnsys15? Thank you very much!
