Re: [TRNSYS-users] solar gains through windows

Dear David,

I would recommend that you go to the manual Volume 6-"Multizone Building modeling with Type56 and TRNBuild". In the latest version, go to section 6.3.2.2.10 Distribution of solar radiation. If you want, go to http://sel.me.wisc.edu/trnsys/ and click on 'TRNSYS16 Registered users', where you will be able to download the latest TRNSYS manuals. Here is a short version of the explanation found in the manuals:

The incoming direct solar radiation is distributed according to the distribution coefficients GEOSURF. These values are distribution factors related to the total direct solar radiation entering the zone. The sum of GEOSURF values given for all inside surfaces of a zone should sum up to 1 at all times. The fraction of incoming direct solar radiation that is absorbed by any surface is given by the product of its absorptance times the GEOSURF value given for this surface. If the GEOSURF falues for all surfaces of a zone are set to zero, all direct solar radiation entering the zone is treated as diffuse radiation, and distributed with the absoptance-weighted area ratios.

You can give this GEOSURF values as inputs to Type56. You could write a component, or use equation-components in the project layout to calculate the values of GEOSURF as function of the angle of incidence.

Best regards,

Diego

Dear all,

I´m modelling a building with type 56.

In some of the thermal zones there is a window in a external wall, and, what I would like to know is if it is possible to know the amount of solar radiation that passes through the window and is absorbed by the floor, considering the angle of incidence of the beam radiation. At the same time I’m interested in the amount of energy absorbed by the wall opposite the window.

Thanks for any comment.
