Re: [TRNSYS-users] [BLDG-SIM] workshop reminder

Mat,

1. With the new version of TRNSYS16 there is also the possibility to use Type56a and b (with and without standard output files). Are the standard output files (bldg-monthly) similar to an energy balance (NType 901)? When I look at the output file it gives monthly values for Heating, Cooling, Infiltration, Ventilation, Solar_Rad, and Int_gains. However, when I add them up it seems something is missing. Is the difference the conduction part?

no, they aren't. For the balances a lot of values are used which aren't available as "normal" NTYPEs. In addition, only the values of the upper part of the "summary.bal" are integrated. The other values are simply printed every hour (not integrated!). The standard output files were developed for previous TRNSYS versions (15, specifically) and use "normal NTYPES" that are
integrated over the time inside 56.

2. There was a mistake in the types 901 - 904. Are the balance types now correct? Is the documentation still correct?

the balances and the documentation were corrected for the release of 16.1.

3. I want to model an internal shading device that is black. Which properties of shading device do I have to change? And to which values? Do you know papers on that subject?

the internal shading factor available in TRNBuild has reflectance and thermal resistance but no absorptance. To model a black shading device, you should set the reflectance toward the window and toward the zone to something very small but non zero (0.01 should work).

Kind regards,
 David
